Local Loves : Ethic

One of the great things about moving is getting the chance to explore & discovering lots of wonderful local haunts. This is the first of a series of posts that I will be doing on some fantastic spots I have discovered in the Macedon Ranges. I hope you will enjoy a little look at some lovely regional businesses & if you are visiting you will take the opportunity to visit them.

Ethic - Woodend

I'm always looking for ways to cut out household waste, but try as I might the recycling bin is always full, so as you can imagine I was pretty excited to discover Ethic.

Ethic - Woodend

Ethic sells an extensive range of bulk organic whole foods & cleaning products. You can either bring alone your own containers or use the recycled containers they have available for customers.

Ethic - Woodend

The system is pretty simple; weigh your container, use the provided labels & fill it up with your product of choice. There is everything you could need to clean your house, a large selection of natural skin & hair care products, spices, teas, grains, flours & sweet treats. They also have a selection of locally handmade gifts which are a lovely extension of the store's ethos.

Ethic - Woodend

Staff are friendly & helpful & Ethic's owner Jenny is the epitome of a passionate business owner. They also have a large cafe & play area which is pretty handy if have have kidlets en tow while you shop.

Ethic - Woodend

It's a pretty great feeling to come home from the shops waste-free, to choose organic & buy the exact amount that you need.

Ethic - Woodend

If you live locally or are visiting Woodend, Ethic is well worth a visit.

I agree on the recycling guilt. We just had a note from our council saying our current sized bins (120l) will incur an annual charge, but if you switch to 60l, it's free. I have no issue with user pays, and wish we could go smaller but honestly ours is full every fortnight. Then as you say this type of store is perfect but we don't have a place like that near us, so then you weigh e driving impact..... It's tough to do the right thing!

What a great shop idea. I'd love something like that in Melbourne.
