The Dress...

Recently my sister got married & I was charged with the very important job of making Willow's dress for the occasion. I think the scariest part was cutting into the silk, it was certainly the most expensive fabric I have ever sewn with & as it was left over from my sister's wedding dress I had a finite amount to work with.

The Dress

Once I got over my initial nerves (& the zip was in) I really enjoyed making the dress, especially hand sewing the lining in & the hem & I'm glad I didn't send it off to a dressmaker.

The Dress

I also made Ryder a black linen tie to wear, (using the purl bee pattern that I have used before) & lined it with a scrap of dress fabric.

The Tie

For the bride I made a garter with the silk & some antique lace I had on hand.

The Garter

It was such a special night but unfortunately Willow got a tummy bug on the day & ended up missing the wedding completely. After all the build up it was heartbreaking, but she happily enjoyed the buffet breakfast at the hotel the next morning in her dress, so at least it got an outing!

Gastro takes no prisoners. But I'm glad she recovered for breakfast and that gorgeous dress got an outing. So beautiful...and set off perfectly by those little socks.

Well done on a beautiful job.

Such a shame she missed the wedding. As you say, at least she got to wear the dress the next day. Amazing dress.

How disappointing...The Dress is absolutely stunning, you should be very proud of yourself. Just the thought of cutting into that fabric would of scared the bejeezus out of me.

I agree with K the fullness of the skirt is very Alice.

Love, love, love

Willow looks gorgeous. Like nikkishell the socks struck me. I had ones exactly like it when I was little and I am sure they never stayed up then either!

Lovely lovely dress. My Jemima is desperate to be a flower girl. It is all about the dress. I'm glad Willow got to wear it despite missing the wedding action (such a shame!). She looks absolutely stunning.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

(hang on, not finished yet)

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I think it's going to take me a while to get over the fact that Willow and the dress missed the actual wedding. Though the one up, one down sock scenario goes a long way towards making up for things.
