Sewing For Me...

I always plan on making clothes for myself. I buy patterns & fabric, but somehow I never get around to the actual sewing. That is something that I want to rectify this year so I guess there's no better time to start than the present.

Top

This top is based on a pattern from my newest Japanese sewing book, & naturally I made a few alterations. Next time I make this pattern I will use a slightly narrower bias, gather the front & back a little less so the straps sit further apart. Aside from those modifications I really like this pattern, super simple to sew up & oh so comfy to wear in warm weather. I am thinking my next version may be a nice Liberty floral, but I have a few big pile of fabric in my sewing room to sew through before I make any new purchases. And yes Willow & now have matching tops, but she refuses to wear hers so there isn't any danger of us looking like a Comptoir des Cotonniers catalogue gone wrong.

You look beautiful. I can see that you would get a lot of wear out of it. And that necklace, so stunning!

This top is similar to one I recently sewed for myself, mine was adapted from a Simplicity pattern. I love it and also made a longer version into a nightie. The binding from my straps continued into the armholes, rather than into in the neckline, which I think might make the straps sit a little better too.
I have loved sewing a little more for myself recently...in fact I am wearing a self sewn top right now!

Oooh it's gorgeous! I have some slightly bigger black and white gingham to make something for me to wear - just haven't decided what yet. I love your summery hair!

It is so pretty, the black and white gingham is such a classic fabric, I have some Japanese books too but keep returning to my comfort zone Vogue patterns - you have inspired me to try one at last.
Plus isn't the book from your previous post the best knitting book ever for little ones - every pattern is gorgeous. I'm so glad there is at least one other person knitting/crocheting in summer! Enjoy your holidays ...

Thats a lovely top, I never think of using gingham on myself, but it looks really nice on you, I think I have to give it a go.
