Not For Kitty....

Although I bet a cat would quite this little ball.

Ball
Cross Stitch, paper piecing & stitched together by hand, it is almost my perfect project. Inside is the kinder surprise thingie & two small bells, a fantastic idea of Kirsty's. Alas, the sound is fair, but still not quite what I am after, so I am still looking for the perfect solution. Ideas?

Cross Stitch

I hope baby AJ likes his gift, if not I hope he has a cat!

Far out...it's perfect! I didn't think it was going to be so perfectly round.

Superb job as usual.

Hiya, The ball is really excellent!

I sourced commercial rattles and squeakers for a book project I did and they are hineously expensive and hard to get. My solution was to buy a $4.99 bag of crap toys from savers and cannibalise them for the commercial rattle and squeaker inserts. If you pick them over you can get quite a good haul! The commercial versions are way smaller than the kinder capsules, and make a variety of different sounds, so you can pick and choose. Cat toy balls with bells in also work, but aren't waterproof and can rust and stop making such a good noise after a while (and break under pressure!).

Beautiful stitching Christie! That's *just* what I've been meaning to make, but I'm sure I won't live up to yours! What about an actual cat-toy-with-bell inside? They're full of holes, so the sound would escape better. I'm sure they're very cheap - don't come with chocolate though, unfortunately!

Love the linen monogram - it is a lovely finishing touch! I have made a few of those balls and find that the sound is often muffled. I can hear the cluck of the bell hitting the plastic more than the ring of the bell. I have had most success using a large bell and inserting it into a plastic container that has had some holes cut out of it so the sound isn't muffled.

Very sweet! I think baby AJ will love it. Thanks for letting me know about your camera too... my lens is 24-85mm which I think means it's a little more zoomy (that's tech speak for telephoto) than yours. I think yours does a brilliant job on the macro-type shots though!

ooh I love it! I made a bunny with a "rattle" in it, I used the kinder surprise thing too but I put 2 pennies in it and it sounds really good
