Cloth Nappies...

It's funny, I popped over to Onegirl this morning & she had posted about making cloth nappies for her daughter & I was right in the middle of doing the same!

Nappy

I am embarrassed to say that I have been planning on doing this for over a year now & yet the pile of nappy making paraphernalia hasn't been touched in a long time.

Nappy Girl

I still have to nut out just how tight to make the elastic (how to get a headstrong 22 month old to pose for a photo) & how much padding is the right amount, but otherwise all went well with cloth nappy mark 1. The pattern is from Ottobre Design (autumn 3/2005) , but they also have a free nappy pattern on their website. I recycled a bit to make these, the nappies are made from a knit fabric that was an old doona cover & the inserts are made from cloth nappies & flannelette baby wraps. My secret hope is that by putting Lo in cloth nappies during the day, she might end up toilet trained this Summer... I can dream, right!?

i cant wait for the weather to warm up cause we just go to the farm and the toilet training is easier...no indoor mess just outdoor mess!!! Maybe Lo lo and chicken will both be nappy free by new year!!! Goodluck

That is a really good idea - we're a long way off toilet training over here, but it's a great theory! I'll remember this, let us know if it works!

Summer is the best time for toilet training, I found we just went straight to training pants (during the day)as they catch a bit, feel wet, & my son just kept taking the nappies off. He learned really quickly with the trainer pants....just buy a BIG size (so they just stay up but don't gape)so they can pull them on/off themselves.

Good luck with it.

It's kind of spooky haow many times you can arrive at a post of someone who is doing something similar if not exactly the same as you. I haven't worked out if I like it or not yet. There is a strange sense of validation and then the disapointment that someone else has had your idea and you are not as creative as you originaly thought!

I made loads of cloth nappies for Clare, which are now being used for Stella. I used a mix of the ottobre free online pattern and one called Mama Bird? There is some info somewhere on my blog! It's fun, isn't it! You've done a great job. And Lo looks so cute!

I made cloth nappies for my little one, in hope that I was doing the right thing for our household and environment. But she wont wear the blasted things! She refuses to sleep with them on! I have no idea why. Maybe I just have to be more persistent with the issue. I think you have done a great job with your nappies.
