On My Desk...

Due to the untimely death of my sewing machine, I have been forced to focus on hand-sewing projects-blah! The truth is that I actually love hand sewing, but what I don't like is not having another option... but enough whinging, & on to my new obsession & more importantly what is on my desk this week.
Today, due to the aforementioned technical difficulties 'on my desk' is really 'on my lap' & my new love is paper piecing. I think it all began a while ago when I saw this amazing tree over at disdressed & of course the internet provided printable templates too (courtesy of moxy ideas), so I was off & running. Naturally the next step was to add my little box of hexagons to the pile of UFOs in my sewing room, possibly never to been seen (or more importantly completed) again.
The broken sewing machine changed all of that & last night, desperate to sew something I pulled out the hexagons.
These are such a great use of tiny scraps of fabric & I have quite a vast amount of those as I can't bear to throw away bits of fabric that I love. Knowing me they will never end up as anything, but at the moment I am really enjoying the process of making them. I may one day be the crazy old lady & her hexagons.

My doll quilt has also arrived safely at it's new home with the lovely & super talented Kim. Amazingly Australia Post actually delivered it in one piece & in a rather timely fashion, so watch out for flying pigs.

Oooh hexagons...my heart skipped a beat. I love them so much & all that they represent. My first real sewing project was hexagons pieced & then appliqued onto a tote.

Ooooh nearly hit by a flying pig.....I think I would cry if my sewing machine broke down, although I am becoming fond of hand stitching on the couch.

Those sweet little pieces of fabric look like craft candy! You certainly like to keep busy :) Looking forward to seeing more of this project.

Sorry to hear of your sewing machine woes. But you are making lemonaid out of lemons!

I live just a few hours away from Kim and we have talked in the past about getting together, so there is the chance that I will get to see your wonderful houses quilt someday. :^) I do think I will try to make a version of it. But it will be pieced instead. I've never appliqued anything before. eek!

Bummer about your sewing machine...can it be fixed? I'm buying myself a machine this weekend, a Janome I think? Loving your sweet hexagons!

They look great! Sorry to hear about your sewing machine, but I'm glad the templates came in handy - I can't wait to see what you make with them!

I love hexagons. Check out my hexagon cot quilt on my blog. I just love it and am gazing at it right now...what is it saying?? ...'QUILT ME, QUILT ME!!'
You are so right about hexies being a great way to use up scraps. Plus the finished product just looks so damn cute.
