One...

I can't believe my baby girl is one today. I seams like years & years ago that I was pregnant & sitting in the operating theatre sobbing as the anesthetist did his job. Some of the medical staff were a bit concerned about my emotional state, but I am a sook at the best of times so throw in some extra hormones & the anticipation of a c-section & it is best to keep the Kleenex handy. One year ago, at 10.35am, little Willow was born. She weighed in at 7lbs 12 oz, & had a smattering of brown hair on her head. She manged to stay out of the special care unit, instead having a nice long cuddle with Daddy, whilst I was in recovery, with a spinal block that wore off way too quickly. Bloody anesthetist.

The past year has been quite a ride. She has been a very different baby to Ryder & we have run the gamut of paediatricians & specialists who diagnosed colic, reflux & other complicatedly named syndromes that all boil down to we don't know why your baby cries a lot, but she will probably grow out of it... thanks for that.

She has been to 'sleep school', has her own passport & has travelled half way around the world & back. She has 4 teeth to date & boy did we know about it when she was teething.

Willow adores her big brother, no matter how rough he is with her. I love hearing the house echo with the sound of the two of them laughing hysterically together & you can hear the thump, thump, thump of Willow crawling around after Ryder.

Willow is sweet, funny, little chatterbox & I sometimes think that she is too smart for her own good. She is very good at getting her way, one way or another.

A year ago today we met our baby girl & our little family was complete. Happy Birthday baby, or as Ryder would say ' love you, so much!'.

what a lovely post *sniff* and what a journey for Willow's first year... Willow sounds just as headstrong as my Daisy. Maybe it is because they were both born in the Chinese year of the Dog?... my Mum has a great book by Susanne White about Chinese years, I must have a look and see what it says about these little 'puppies' of ours :)
